Boston Folks: I would like your suggestions for a VERY VERY nice place to eat.
I want to take the g/f to Boston either over night or for a full weekend. Please name the restaurant and the type of food they serve.
Last time I was there, I ate at a French place called L'Espalier which was very good. Food was great and so was the service. Being young (and looking young) I sometimes get teh crap of service.
Thanks for your help.

http://www.lespalier.com/</a

You're setting a high bar!
Other places of that ilk include the following:
Aujourd'hui
200 Boylston St.
(Charles St.)
Boston, MA
617-351-2037
This one is another of the classic greats of Boston. Definitely on a par with L'Espalier in terms of very high end service, decor, and food. Very froo froo.
No. 9 Park
9 Park St.
(bet. Beacon & Tremont Sts.)
Boston, MA
617-742-9991
This is a personal favorite and the one I'd steer you towards. Not quite as froo froo as Aujourd'hui and L'Espalier, but very elegant and top notch food. They also have what I consider THE most creative bar in the city. Their custom martini drinks are incomparable. Also has the advantage of a great location: right near the state house and the common -- setting you up for a romantic pre- or post-dinner stroll.
Mistral
223 Columbus Ave.
(bet. Berkeley & Clarendon Sts.)
Boston, MA
617-867-9300
Another personal favorite. If you have any kind of a roving eye, you might want to skip this one: it's quite the "beautiful people" place the the hostesses are of legendary model quality. If you want a great people watching place that is very elegant and has great food, this is it.
Radius
8 High St.
(bet. Federal & Summer Sts.)
Boston, MA
617-426-1234
Another one with a great bar. Very ultra-moder decor with excellent food and service. Easily the top place in the financial district (if that matters).
Good luck! Please report back with results.

Thanks for the detailed response. L'Espalier is the only place I've ever been to eat in Boston.
So I have nothing else to compare it too. Checking out all these websites now. Any ideas for where to stay? I was looking at the ninezero hotel. I like the modern decor it has. But it is a little pricey.

NineZero is an excellent place to stay.
If you want to combine staying and eating in the same place, Spire (the restaurant inside NineZero) is another excellent choice.
Maybe stay at NineZero, stroll through the park to No. 9 Park, and then back to Spire for dessert? If she's not up for it, sign me up! Sounds like quite a night out.

I think that the best places in Boston are actually in the 'burbs
Le Soir in Newton- about 7 miles out of the city
Attached is their link with menu
then there is always Blue Ginger in Wellesley. While always great, I think that alot of the appeal is that the owner is now a celeb chef. Great food - great service

http://www.lesoirbistro.com/</a

In addition to places mentioned (all excellent places btw)
Sibling Rivalry on Tremont St in the Back Bay is pretty good. Interesting menu set up, two menus set up next to each other from the two chefs, a common theme and each puts their own spin on it.

If you're looking for Italian in the North End (a stop to Mike's Pastries is a must when there!), Taranta is one of my favorites in the North End. Small and cozy restaurant, great food (must try their pork chop) and service.

Great Bay recently opened in Kenmore Square, seafood restaurant. Nice decor and setting, food is great and service is excellent.

Hope these help you!
