Default How to transport a used vehicle after purchase?

I'm looking at buying a used car down in Virginia but don't know how Mass works as far as transporting the vehicle back to my house. In other states I've used a temporary transport plate and driven the car home. Does anything like this exist in Mass?

Thanks

Mass does not have temp tags.

If you currently have a plate and you are buying a car to replace your current one, you can use that plate to transport the car. You have 7 days to transfer reg/insurance to the new car. Make sure you have all documentation with you just in case.

If you dont currently have plates, you will need to find an insurance agent and open up a policy. they will send you a form which you take to the dmv to get plates.

I wouldnt recommend "borrowing" a plate from another car. That is asking for trouble. Let your insurance know what you are doing and you should be fine.

If you are buying the car from a dealer, they may be able to give you a temp plate from that state.

Are you 100% sure about this? I thought that was called "attaching plates" and was illegal in MA

Default MASS last year or so made a way to transfer the old tag to the new vehicle

Read the DMV site.

Basically you keep insurance on and write a bill of sale and carry papers found in the MA RMV.org web site:
