It fits perfectly.
You just pop the old radio out, hook up the wiring harness, run the GPS antenna behind the instrument cluster (which was much easier to remove than I had feared), and slide the new unit into place. Fits like it was there from the start. Whole job done in about 20 minues.
The only complication I had was that the adapter didn't hook up the K-line wire, so I couldn't use my vag-com to configure the unit until I patched up a solution. Not sure I even needed to bother though, as it worked perfectly fine even without vagging it.
