Had a wheel straightened there. It was done the next day, and it's beautiful.

Refinishing wheels doesn't sound like it's really worth it to me... unless you're on something really spectacular, like BBS LMs or something... For a cheaper wheel, especially an OEM wheel that I'm sure you could find fairly easily, I don't think the price is worth it.
good luck.

exactly, $210 to fix a $200 wheel, not worth it. Im surprised it still costs so much
It's way too high IMHO. Tru wheels straightens wheels for $60 IIRC, but im not sure what their straightening process involves.
rim/wheel works has a really primitive machine and relies on the technician to have good judgement on heat input into the metal etc, which could be hit or miss since its heavily dependent on the operator.
As far as RIMPROs process, check out patent #6840522 for their machine (http://www.google.com/patents?id=UycUAAAAEBAJ&dq=merrifield+wheel)

rim and wheelworks was 150 years ago.. I use LFCG.com
In waltham, they can straighten wheels for 75 each. They straightened a fragile chrome 18" Mitsubishi wheel for me, it is true now, but still shows a slight curb since they don't overheat them.. risk of cracking is the issue

http://www.lfcg.com</a

I used them years ago for wheel straightening and refinishing of my stock Avus wheels.
They did a great job. The wheels are still smooth and straight to this day. The finish they used was not stock, so it came out a little different than oem. You can't really tell that the paint is non-oem unless you scrutinize them closely. I think the finish Rim & WW used is much tougher than the thin coated oem finish, which scratches very easily. My Avus wheels have been through five winters since the work was performed. They have seen some of the deepest snow and some of the muddiest terrain you can imagine. The wheels are still practically flawless, save a few spots where the paint is flaking off from normal winter wear (mostly in the wheel well along the back side of the spokes).

I had them refinish a really complicated wheel and they did an AWESOME job
I mean, this thing looked like it came from the factory. It had a chunk of metal out of it (gouged) when I gave it to them too.. they sent it out, had some welder work on it.. Insanely amazing results

Ripped me off by selling me on straightening of wheels that didn't need it...
even though I explicitly said I only wanted to pay for them to be straightened if it was not tire-related. That was $650 I could have used to replace the tires.
Then, after the problem was still there (shuddering), he told me it was the tires and that I should just "do some burnouts and wear 'em out."
What I don't understand is why they didn't pull the tires to check if the wheels were indeed the problem before charging me an arm and a leg straightening them unnecessarily.
Before that, I had only good experiences with them. But, I vowed to take any chance I got to smear their name after that rip-off.

Eek. Not good. After much thought, I am leaning to just buying new, nothing too $$ like Fikse or
Volk, but some nice Hartmann wheels for 250-300/wheel. Between that and tires, I'm looking at close to $2k. If I pay $210 for straightening and refinishing, plus new summer tires, I'll still have 17" wheels that I like, but don't love, and be spending $1,500. Seems like I should sell my wheels to the interested buyer and buy new!
