Default a request for some travel help please (vermont to new hampshire)..........

other than the obvious drive east.

i am going to be in central vermont this weekend with my wife and two young sons and i am considering a day / scenic trip to Mt. Washington.

question: what's the best route to Mt. Washington, New Hampshire from White River Junction, Vermont and i would appreciate a rom (random order of magnitude), time wise.

thanks,
anthony

Default When I lived in Campton (Waterville Valley area) I used to take...

Rte 25 to Rte 118 to Rte 4 so you could probably just do the reverse. I don't know if its the quickest way but its not a bad drive and used to take about 45 minutes. The roads are primarily 2 lanes but traffic moves along pretty well on them usually. Significantly more scenic than the highways too.

Default Where do you want to end up specifically?

If you want to just take a drive up to the White Mountains, and have a nice final destination, you should probably shoot for ending up in North Conway. If that works for you, I'd go

Rte 4 to 118 to to 118/25 to 112 in Lincoln which is the Kancamangus. Take that into North Conway. The Kanc is a great scenic road through White Mtn. National Park with good places to stop and take pics etc.

If you want to go up to Mt. Washington itself, then your route makes good sense.

Default do the kangamangus hiway...

rt 112. get to lincoln, nh anyway you want. there's a tourist center at the intersection of I93 and rt112 where you can get a good map. the kangamangus goes to fairly high altitude so you'll get some good foliage this weekend. the state has finished paving for the year so the road is in good shape. i'd go to passaconway road and then to west side road as they allow you to bypass conway.and drop you on rt 302 west of the turn to mt. washington.

Default from White River Junction I would head south on 89 amd get off

at the Mascoma exit, I think its exit 17 Rte. 4. Ride that for about a half hour east to Rte 118 North towards the White Mountains. It turns into Rte25/Rte. 118 just before the White Mt. region. Are you going somewhere paticular up there? THey have a GREAT hiking path up there. I'll check online to find out exactly where it is. It's where the man in the mountain used to be...
