Default wth? called dealer about 45k service, oil specifically, they put in m1 5w-30 in a 2.7t...

ugh, so great it's synthetic but I have to buy and send along 0w-40 anyway

AND I know they stock 0w-40 because they service p-cars and that's the mandatory oil

grrr

Default Did you RTFM?

5W-30 is one of about 100 acceptable oil weights.

yes, my problem is that they won't use 0w-40 on request so I have to pay for "covered" service

Default You have to pay for premium specially requested service

The covered service is still free, and does no harm to the car.

Default I know your point is not about the type of oil per se, but FWIW I've used M1 5W-30 for

quite some time in my 2.7T with no issues at all. Granted, 0W-40 might be a smidgen wider range, but the 5W-30 range is plenty wide, especially for here in New England.

Default Good to hear! I have M1 5w30 Truck and SUV in both 2.8s right now...

the 12v guys like the Truck and SUV stuff for some reason. At least it is easier to find, for me at least.
