Default Buying used 1999 cabriolet

Hello Audi peoples,

we are buying a friends old cabriolet. Our friend bought a new BMW so the Audi just sets now. My '85 SVO has a cracked head (but thats for another time) so we are down to one car. Our friend offered us the Audi for 200 dollars. It needs a battery and some TLC but I think she's making us "an offer we can't refuse"

The battery is dead, so she said "the engine management needs to be reset"
I'm sure this is covered in the manual; however, the manual is in German.

I have searched the forums for "battery replacement", "reset computer" and a few other tries. My Audi search-fu is not that strong yet, so could someone please point me in the correct direction on how to this car running properly after we put a new battery in it.

Thank you for any assistance.
