Default Problem after new cam belt fitted

I have an Audi A6 Diesel 2007 - 124K mileage - Automatic
The car was in for a service 3 weeks ago and mot - AUDI Dealer - they suggested that the old cam belt was split and needed changing - this was fitted and over £1000 inc service... today the car broke down lost power and then wouldn't start - about 200 miles since the belt was replaced - the AA guy said the timing belt (which I assume is the cam belt) was loose... and it may have jumped some teeth - and now towed back to the garage and cost of a taxi home.

Not sure what the damage will be to the engine - the AA guy wasn't sure - my question is, should cam belts need re-adjusting after being fitted new? (I wouldn't have thought so)

And what recourse to the Audi Dealership... IF further damage to the engine...

Arg. Not good. There will be damaged valves at a minimum. If that belt is loose and it has jumped time then it’s because of some error or an unlikely defective replacement part. I would have it towed to the dealership and just nicely ask them to correct their error ( once it is diagnosed as a timing belt issue) Good Luck. It’s not going to be a cheap repair.

Thanks - but surely this should be under warranty? Literally, drive about 200 miles...

Whether called warranty or not, they should take care of the problem they caused. Depending on your trust level, you might ask to be present when they remove that timing belt cover. That only takes minutes.
