Default Tire replacement

My sister has a TT roadster about 10K miles, she got a flat tire, and now the dealer says all 4 tires need to be replaced so that they are of equal threat wear. Seems unnecessary to through 3 good tires away. Any advice.

The Quattro system is very precise. True tie circumstance needs to stay within a few percentage points. With 10k miles I am guessing that you should replace all 4 tires.

I agree with the dealer and KevinGary. Although the Haldex system in the TT (assuming it is quattro and not FWD) is more forgiving than Torsen style quattro. So if money is tight, get two new tyres and put them on the front axle. But it isn't the ideal solution.

If 3 of the tires have a great deal of tread left, you might want to check into buying a matching 4th tire and have it shaved to the depth of the other three. I know that tire rack will do that. If the tires are Audi AO, you might want to ask the dealer if they have that capability or can send the tire out.
