Anyone driven Tesla Road, Mines Road or Calaveras Road?
thinking about going on a drive. I need to get away. Thinking about Tesla Road out to the Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area to play in the allroad.

Yes, it's awesome. Getting there may be an issue though ;-)
Just don't follow any Nogaro S4s on your way there, and you'll be fine.
It's a great drive, but I still prefer Marin. Something about the coast line...it just does it for me!

I just rode Calaveras Road...
...on my bicycle, yesterday.
Drove it, at night, last week, just to see what it was going to be like.
It's a fun drive but I actually wouldn't recommend it in a car, relative to other drives that are available.
The twisty sections of Calaveras (around Calaveras Reservoir) are during the single-lane section of the road. There are a lot of blind turns to the left (if going south to north) where you have to be *very* careful as you go around because you never know if there's another car, a cyclist, or motorcyclist on the other side.
So if you're someone who wants to push the car a little, it's a bad road.
If you just want a pleasant country drive, however, it's a nice stretch of road. Stop in Sunol at Bosco's Bones and Brew for a good meal. Then take your choice of roads to connect up to Castro Valley or Pleasanton or further north (or drop down Niles Canyon to Fremont).

As Chester sez, Calaveras is definitely worth the drive, but take it easy

since it's very tight/blind in spots. some of the views are great though, hard to beleive you're only a coupla miles from the Bay Area megapolis.
Tesla: I drive this all the time, since I live in Tracy. I use it to get to Poppy Ridge golf course. there's also Patterson Pass Rd., which parallels Tesla Rd. Take one out, the other one back. Here's a pic I took on Patterson Pass Rd.

Do a search on 1000 turns... used to be a regular Norcal Audi drive....
not sure if that still happens anymore since I have been out of the loop. They chip-seal it all the time, so there are always lots of pebbles on the road. Watch out for bicyclists.
