Default Anyone here have their FasTrak just laying on the dashboard?

I know it is legally required to mount the FasTrak near the rear-view mirror. I was wondering if anyone just has their transponder laying on the dashboard and whether it works as well. The reason for asking is that occasionally I might be riding in someone else's car and want to use it there.

Mounted on dashboard on both our Miata and Grand Cherokee with no known problems.

Default I just keep mine in the center console, and throw it on the dash as I drive through.

works fine, no issues.

If you're paranoid, hold it up to teh glass with your hand as you drive through.

Default also if your car is registered with your transponder, you can just drive thru it without...

the transponder since all they'll do is cross reference your car's license plate with your particular transponder. i've done it a couple of times since i forgot my transponder in my mom's car, but never got charged with anything.

Default I wouldn't make a habit of that...I seem to remember reading something about that

They let you get away it once, but then they claim you will get ticketed. If all you had to do was register your car with FasTrak, we wouldn't need the transponder in the first place.

Default Occassionally it will not work for us even at 25mph. maybe the internal battery is weak...

But to get a sure beep, I have to hold it up higher.

Just yesterday, it didn't beep at the bay bridge while it was sitting over my A4's defroster ports, and I was driving pretty slow (20 to 25). Note velcro side up.

We never mounted the thing because we have one transponder than on occassion switch around between 4 cars. We don't cross bridges often enough to warrant getting more.

The pickup points in Dumbarton bridge seem to work well. It can pick it up even if the transponder is down on the floor, caused by a slippery dashboard
