I searched TFA, and could not get any info on a "good" ;-)
place to smog my B5 S4, which has an X1 intake.

The X1 intake is an open format, and so I am not sure if it will pass the visual, but it will pass the HC (according to Speedwerke).

Please help !!!!!
(Does Griffen smog?)

Sorry man, nobody is going to post the name of a shop who would humour you on the internet. You might get better luck asking for a PM.

Why not just put the stock intake back on for the smog?

Unfortunately the folks I use do make a visual check of all systems, so it won't help you unless your car looks stock under the hood.
