car insurance recommendations (also: am i screwed?)
just got a call from my current insurance carrier in massachusetts (amica) telling me they won't cover me in california because i have 2 speeding tickets and a wrong-way[1] ticket on my record in the past 5 years (no accidents, dui's or anything stupid like that). this blew my mind since back in massachusetts you can pretty much go with any company for a price. as such, i'd like to check with some other companies. so, who do folks like (i'm much less concerned with price than with customer service)?
on a related note, i see that there's a "high risk auto insurance" thing in california. i'd hope the above 3 infractions wouldn't force me down that road already?
[1] one-way infraction was thanks to boston's big dig -- road under construction turned into a one-way with no markings, and before i could get turned around, a cop came and pulled me over :-(

My (personal) experience is third moving violation within 18 month period causes your rates to rise
I'm with USAA, but I think other major carriers are similar. You just need to call around and shop rates. For customer service, not sure where to find out although I am happy with USAA - it's limited to military or direct relatives (my dad was in Army...).
P.S. That's why you want to go to traffic school (once every 18 months max) to keep tic kets off your driving record.

I wonder how many of USAA customers are dependents and weren't in the service themselves
I and my two brothers make three, our dad was in the Army.
USAA's been really good to me, $600k in claims in the last three years, and just went up another $17k for my S4 last Nov. No one's blinked...

I switched to Liberty Mutual a few years back.....
when Allstate was giving me a bunch of BS. Liberty Mutual has been great working me thru some claims in black February....

Not me - served 91-99. USAA used to be only for commissioned officers.
That was years ago though. Shoot, just getting an affinity discount with my cell phone bill is one of the great reasons to be with them.
