Default flying in (from VA) this wkend for a Mon interview...

landing SJC @ 9PM Fri, and leaving 10PM Mon night (red eye... urg!) Job will be @ Moffet Field (Mt View/Sunnyville).

Any suggestion on areas/cities/neighborhoods to check out for townhouse (w/ garage) rentals? My previous post. Is CraigsList Hot-ly used around here for such?

...just want to get an idea for now, not sign any lease yet.

Also any suggestion on places to check out to get an idea of social life for a late 30's single dude? Even tho my lil sister and 2nd cousins live right in the area and will likely be showing me around, would like to solicit your opinions here.

thanks
-Dean

Audi content - I look fwd to running track days w/ ACNA here!

Default Moffet @ Gladys Ave isnt too bad of an area..

On some streets you can see the airfield in the area but regardless there are some nice moderately priced homes for first time buyers. If your looking to spend a bit more just on the other side of El Camino (west side of el camino) starts a very nice area of Sunnyvale. My parents live out that way and it's almost one of those white picket fence neighborhoods. Anything west of El Camino off Bernardo. East of El Camino is a village of apartment buildings I wouldnt park my car near at night...

Right now the bay (well.. the nation..) is exploding with foreclosures so you can land something dirt cheap right now.

Default Sunnyvale zip codes

Basically, Sunnyvale is for the most part bisected by El Camino Real. North (and east) of El Camino real is 94086 (and a few other ones such as 94089 and 94085 but that's mostly industrial/commercial). South of ECL is 94087. The "better" or more expensive areas are in 94087.

Yes, you'll find some older, smaller homes north of El Camino Real, which housed the cannery workers when there used to be a cannery (the old McNeil Libby cannery site is near the Home Depot at Kifer Road).

Default There are a number of smaller older homes around downtown Sunnyvale. Murphy St

has some good places to eat and farmers markets, so it's nice to stroll there. The area just east and south of downtown is best.

In Mountain View, the area around Castro St is probably best. It's a much larger area with more variety than Sunnyvale.

Both areas are close to the rail line that runs to San Francisco.

Default in addition to what others have said...

you might also try Palo Alto, gonna be a bit pricey though. you might even check out menlo park, redwood city, and san carlos as that would put you closer to coyote point and SF. all have some sort of downtown area for the social scene...

Sounds like a fun trip to explore. If you end up at Moffet, say hi to the MythBusters for us.
