Default New to the bay area

Hello aw members!

I've posted on here a few weeks ago about possibly moving to the bay area. Well the job offer went well and my family and I made the move from Colorado. We're near the Sunnyvale area.

I was hoping to ask a CA question. I wanted to go and get my motorcycle license while creating the driver's license. I only had a permit in Colorado. DMV is asking I take the motorcycle course. Does anyone know of a good (and affordable) place to take this near Sunnyvale? btw, DMV is horrible here, took us 5 hours to get registered...

Any members work near the Moffet field area here?

Thanks and look forward to meeting the members here.

John

Hi John,

Depends how old you are. I believe the course is mandatory if you're under 21. I'm way over that and I just got my motorcycle license (because my wife decided to buy a bike ;-)

I was in and out in 15min taking the written test (25 questions) then I took an appointment for the driving test (very low speed slalom and circle test), spent almost 2 hours for a 5min test. And that was it.
No motorcycle course required.

However, my wife who never rode a bike before took the safety course from http://www.bikesmartmct.com/ and it waved her the riding test at DMV. She just took the written test and got a M1 license in exchange for her certificate from BikeSmart...

Good luck!
Rich
