I'm headed into town for work and have the weekend to play, but didn't know if the mtns are still going to be open or worth going to at that time of the year?

any help/recommendations would be appreciated.

It of course depends on storms in next month so who knows. It is pushing 50 degrees plus this week much of the day. At 8:45 am right now it is already 39 degrees. Below 6500 feet ground is pretty much bare. Snow is gone in downtown Truckee for example. You will need more storms for reasonable conditions in mid-April. I have been at Squaw as late as end of April with reasonable Spring conditions, but it's pushing it.
