What was the deal with Caltrans and closing off 80 of Friday night ?

Default They were preserving Saturday's first tracks for locals. :)

That should fuel the ski-conspircay theories for a while.

When the spins & wrecks add up so much that towing companies and traffic control can't keep up, they just shut down to get caught up. I watch the site at http://cad.chp.ca.gov/ for incident reports (select Truckee from the upper left dropdown).

Got past the chain control and made it up when we heard 80 got closed.

Default Yeah I was refreshing that site from my iPhone, while stuck in the car, it built up to about 10

hazards, but nothing special
