Default Does it make more sense to buy NEW?

So the conventional wisdom has always been a car loses $2000 in value the moment it is driven off the lot. However, it's starting to look to me like dealers are trying to make more on the used cars than their new ones.

In particular I am looking at buying a VW Golf Alltrack (it is a poor man's allroad and I am a poor man). For $19,000 I can purchase a 2017 Alltrack with 30,000 miles (or an SE with 50,000 miles). For the same amount, I can buy a 2013 Audi allroad with 60,000 miles. But I was talking with my neighbor who just bought a new Tiguan and he said, the discounts on the new ones made more sense than buying used. So, I searched the inventory at the dealer he went to and it turns out that for $25,000 I can get a brand new Golf Alltrack S which would have the full warranty in place. I have also noticed that used car dealers are very firm on their prices. Maybe, they go a couple hundred off, but that is about it.

The question then, is 2 years and 30,000 miles worth $6,000?

Has anyone had similar experiences and have an opinion on buying new vs. used? I think part of the problem is that what I am looking for is some what a niche market so there is not a ton on the used lots. If I were looking for say a Jetta I could probably find a cheap used one.

I personally, always search for good used car option, I usually change cars every 5 years. Depending on the model, your insurance rates may be lower on a used car as opposed to a new one, so it's huge advantage for me. If you are buying a used car, you should always check it's history! I started checking at carVertical :https://www.carvertical.com/gift?poo...=US&b=7ec4d0d9
Cheaper than carfax!

Thanks for the reply. I will check out carvertical , although most places now provide a carfax for free.

I tend to keep my cars until the wheels fall off. My A6 has 240,000 miles and still going strong.
