Default Advice/Help for allroad fuel filter replacement DIY

I've been told that it's a good idea to replace the fuel filter as a maintenance item, though it's not on any scheduled maintenance. Anyway, it looks very accessible on the allroad, and from what I've read, it's pretty simple. That said, I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'd like to try doing SOMETHING myself on this car, and fuel filter sounded like a good project.

Is this a bad idea for me to tackle? And, is there anyone in the Seattle area that would like to be my backup and help me with this? I would be happy to pay or buy you drinks, etc. Just kind of afraid of doing it by myself with no experience or backup. Let me know your thoughts, warnings, advice, etc. Thanks!
