Default It's taken a while, but I found a down side to detailing my car...

Like many other home owners, I've got a garage door opener with the "saftey" beam across the bottom. This is to ensure that the door does not crush a child or animal stupid enough to sit there while a big door thing comes down towards them..."hey look....a door..*ugh*".

Welp, I can safely attest that my S4 has a mirror like finish...

Yes, you can guess what ALMOST happened.

Our new openers are really sensitive, I was moving my wife's keys, barely tapped the opener, heard the door start closing...waited as I figured, The car was there, the door wasn't going to...SON OF A... and diving for the keys, I caught it just as the rubber gap filler on the bottom started pushing on the sharkfin.

The lights on the trip beam housings were solid indicating nothing was in the way. I moved the car, stuck my big, hairy, pale white leg in there and sure enough, they started blinking and the door would not close.

I'm not washing my car again...

today.

Default Garage door openers also have a torque sensor. If they hit some thing before bottom, they will back

off automatically. Mine has done this several times.

Good save! Are the housings mounted low enough that the beam went under the car?

Nope, they're right above the blades on the door line which is why the "beam" was reflected back.

Yup, problem is it wouldn't have kicked in until the shark fin had been thumped good.

Default It will depend on what pressure setting you have your garage door set for. Mine would not squish a

cat (i.e. light pressure)
