If you add a larger rear bar in lieu of stiffer springs, you won't sacrifice your on-road ride.

However, I'd rather change spring rates, but that's just me, and I don't care too much about how the car will ride on the street (that's what I have the 5kq for).

Default Yup, that gets to the heart of the matter...

...all else being equal I'll take the improvement in ride comfort. I just suspect that they aren't quite equal situations handling-wise. What about the handling makes *you* prefer higher spring rates (compared to a bigger sway?)

Me, myself? A larger bar will take away from the suspension's "independant" nature. IE, what the left wheel is doing can affect the right wheel. Messing with spring rates does not do that. But, like I said, a larger bar will keep a better ride quality for street driving. Someone said that bars are a band-aid for an improperly setup suspension (for tracked cars).

Default Yeah, I've heard that band-aid description before...

Thanks for your help cuatrokoop - I *think* I'm starting to understand..

I don't agree here, even F1 cars have front and rear sway bars. The sway bars in Our Formula Continental are cockpit adjustable to allow fine tuning during a race.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger, it was a noted (BMW?) tuner that made the comment ;-). I just agree that most of your setup should be done with the springs on a tracked car. Fine tuning with an adjustable bar is fine, IMO. Exactly how many adjustable bars are available for any Audi (especially my '90 Coupe)? Not (m)any that I can think of, without going custom.

Default A Bimmer comment ... that explains it :-)

And you're right. We do the bulk of the tuning on our car by choosing from a large selection of springs and fine tune with the bars.
