1.8T -Verses- VR6
Friend of mine keeps gloating about he waxed an
A4 1.8T with his 98 VW VR6.
I'm assuming this was a "stock" 1.8T?
Anyone have any first hand experience racing VR6's
with their 1.8T's?

the corrado is the fastest vr6 you'll race...they have a final drive that is noticeably faster than the others. my friends would have gobs of torque at shifts up to 3rd gear. his was bone stock.

Own both engines and here's my two cents
We have a 2000 VR6 GTI (stock) and a 99.5 Avant Tiptronic (MTM Stage 2).
Although my wife refuses to drag race me, here are my observations about the two cars:
A) The GTI is much quicker off the line. And not just because it's a manual. It just has more pep in the lower (sub 4K RPM) range. So if it was a stoplight drag, I can believe it.
B) The A4 (as modified - MTM claims 210 hp) absolutely crushes the VR6 in the 60-100 mph zone. Even taking into account downshifting. So if it was a highway "top speed" race, then the A4 (if modified) just chickened out.
C) The GTI stock suspension is softer than my baby's bottom. Whereas the Audi, with its factory sport suspension and quattro, is absolutely confidence inspiring in even the trickiest corners. So if it was a winding country road race and your friend's car is stock, then he's lying and/or the A4 driver sucks.
