Is a 180 DEGREE THERMOSTAT required with KO4? Why or why not? THX
#3
Not necessarily required. IIRC, James R. (please reply) had problems with...
...either the low temp. thermostat or the low temp. fan thermoswitch on his first A4 1.8T.
I can't think of why he would've had a problem with the fan thermoswitch (other than installation); it just turns the fan on at a lower coolant temp.
James, if you could, please specify what type of problems (coolant system hard to bleed?) you had with the low temp. thermostat on your first 1.8T. I'm considering installing one and would like to hear about problems you had.
Thanks!

edit: If the K04 chip is programmed properly, (and boost isn't too high) your car should run a *little* cooler (oil & coolant temps tend to run in tandem) than a chipped K03.

Whatever you do don't change the main coolant thermostat...the dual speed fan switch one is fine if
you want to change that...I did. I also changed the main thermostat and had some interesting problems which only really began to creep up at 100+ MPH but still I would not suggest it for anyone. Besides looking at the digital value in the climate display it looked like that new thermostat was good for maybe 1~2 degrees C at idle...don't mess with it...tis simply not worth the effort, it's BTW one of the trickier parts of the K04 instal cause the damn thing keeps wanting to fall back out into your hand. I had to use some permatex gasket maker goo to get mine in...only to have to take it out a few months later. If you want more info search for my old post about the temp gauge and high speed and K04 or something like that you'll find my full blow explaination. BTW - I reported all of my findings to Neuspeed...and you'll notice now they don't even have the thermostat with the kit anymore...at least it's not in the picture.

James R.
