Default 1995 Audi 90 Quattro Stink Problem! Speed?

I have an issue with my cats smelling like a nice box of rotten eggs. Is there anything I can do so it doesn't do that? They only do it every once in a while.

I was also wondering what I could do to just give it alittle bit more bottom end throttle responce. Is it safe to take the airbox off on this car?

Default The catalytic convertors on those cars were notoriouslly bad for that

Try changing gas (brands), running some BG 44k, and then live with it.

Default it happens because US gas has a lot of sulfur in it

Our spec for sulfur is very high compared to Europe. So a cat that works there smells here.

California has very tight sulfur regs, so you would be okay out here.

There is nothing you can do except change the cats. Staying with a particular brand of gas might work. Then again it might not.

Taking the airbox off is usually a bad idea. It gets you a little more air, but its hotter air since it comes from inside the engine compartment.

Default what kind of cat should I get?

I live in colorado which I herd has the worst gas in the us not to mention I am like a mile above sea level and the air here is like really thick.

I am going to leave the airbox on and just get a new cat. Is there an cat that would give the car alittle more power?

You could always just take them out. The car would still run clean off to pass emissions

Default certainly not

There has only ever been one car which passed US emissions without a cat, the Honda CVCC. Remove them from an Audi 90, and you'll miss by a mile.

Default dunno

Try searching the net. The key when talking to companies about new cats is to mention that your current cats are destroyed. Not smelly but wrecked. For some reason it is illegal to replace working cats in the US.

Default Have you ever done it? I know of MANY Audis that have and do pass with out them

Ask any of the UrS4 guys who run without cats.

Default it must depend on your state

Any state which tests to anywhere near the actual emissions standard isn't going to pass them.

Now, in many states, the testing is on a sliding scale depending on how old your car is. The older you get, the more emissions you are allowed.

That's the only way you are going to pass.

I have to agree with you on one thing, in any given state, if a UrS4 passes, and Audi 90 should pass without a hitch.

Sweet someone with the same problem. I need a new sticker this month and my cats smell some times, but i have heard that they will still pass even dead and i don't really wanna dish $1000 b.c i think it is the passenger cat. But is that sulfer thing abut US gas true and my car rumbles, everyone asks what the hell is wrong, but after 3k rpm it is normal....
