Default 2000 A4 1.8, 250F Oil Temps Re-Visited

Okay, put in Cooler Spark plugs. These are the original plugs from the Stage III kit (NGK 7's)

at 20K service dealer put in new OEM plugs.

Now as of last sunday on not so spirited drives (HWY crusing with a burst here and there) even now with the cooler plugs temps still creap up to near 250F. I can understand that at the track but on the highway.

So, anyone able to point of where the Oil temp sensor is? I've done my best to check the oil route for any places of restriction, oil level is fine.

Where might oil flow get restricted?
Car runs great otherwise.

Thanks in advance Audi folks!!

Default one question, Rich...

where is your oil feed line routed? Is it outside the metal heat shield, or tucked inside? If it IS outside, is it laying near the manifold? That may raise the temps a bit. Here is how mine is situated:

Default Mines like that. My oil temps here in Hotlanta are no more than..

200, 225 when I push it very hard. Never have seen 250 with the Stage 3.

Default Yep, routed just like ya awl's......

took another drive south 280 hwy high 80's today.
Just driving down the hwy, spikes OVER 250-275!!

Then casually goes back down to 225.
reminder this ALL started last weekend!

Tomarrow is the BIG New Dimensions VW/Audi show here. I'll get Stephen or Nick or Brett in a hammer lock until I get answers 8-), oh and any latest DBW ver. update!

It really appears that the sending unit could be freaking out! Is it down by the oil filter as Rich L. pointed out?

Thanks dudes!

ps. when IS the final final ver. software cvoming?

Default I feel a *cough* *cough* cold coming on.... I think I have to take sick leave....

this wednesday

275? Somethings up there. Not the turbo, it's not using much oil... Tomeo had a pinched oil line - at the connector ehind the block I think... I'd check that. I'd venture someting with the oil bypass in the filter, but I don't know what you are using....OEM is the safest bet..

I'm out of ideas, other than the sending unit. Have you verified the gauge with a vagtool? Maybe the gauge itself is faulty.

Default ah ah ah chooooooooooooooooooo

Yeah OEM filter, lines seem fine. No, No Vag tool reading re: the gauge itself.

It happened again, coming back up north 275, drops right back to 200, and sists around 210+/-.

Met Nick, no real answers, but the sender seems to be prime suspect. But, maybe a Faulty part (oil filter) from the dealer??? Naaaaawwwww, that'd never happen.

Audi On, and tkae care of that cough!

Default Fill me in on your issues with x-crossing....

I saw your post on having issue with x-crossing the Stage 3. What is the difficulty? Have you tracked it yet?

Default Oil Temp. Sensor location...

...should be on top of the oil filter mount flange (for lack of a better term).

Where are your water temps running?

The OE oil/water heat exchanger warms oil when engine's cold, and heats it further when engine's warm.

Default you mean Auto-X'ing ??

mind you its still fun as hell Auto-X'ing. But, it has become more of a competiton now being in Street Modified with these folks.

Performance wise it just falls off the face of the earth when revs get down under 3000 aprox. Every 10th-100th-1000th of a sec. counts.

Fast section full boost in 2nd gear, hard braking ABS is going nuts, hard left punch it........nothing, then BOOM, boost hits at 3100rpm.
Its Fast, but holding down low causes the need to go into 1st, let the clutch out BOOM, shift to 2nd imediately....oh sh*t, Brake hard again, and start the process all over.

in general put it 2nd and leave it! Not anymore.

Now, there is hope! chatting with the Auto-X national guys out here mention going to 15"-16" wheels and change tire diameter which will revise gearing, hence higher revs! But, then might need to go into 3rd everyonce in a while. alot easier down shifting from 3rd to 2nd, as opposed to 2nd to 1st.

But, it is super competetive out here in Street Modified, these folks are FAST, FAST, FAST.

No, have'nt tracked it yet. But, I would have not a single issue there!! except maybe needing better brakes! 8-)

Audi On!
ps.I still have that second version I got back in march, you guys have a newer ver2, I think.
I undestand we are still acouple weeks away from Final Final version, says Nick this weekend.
