So a few years ago I picked up a nice A6 2.8 avant which now has close to 75,000 miles on it. It is obviously out of warranty now so I don't have that whole issue to worry about.

Now I want to add some performance to this thing. Infact I'd like to add a PES SC which from what I have heard is a LOT of performance (especially for the money IMHO).

My questions are:

1) Does this engine/transmission (I know, I know it's a Tip!) have too many miles on it to really make this worth it?

2) Is the PES install easy enough for a non-mechanic to do or is there anyone in the Seattle area that anyone would recommend to do the install.

3) What other mods should I do before/after/during this install? (i.e. must have the brakes to back up that power, or an aftermarket exhaust would be a nice addition)?

2. I did my own install and do not consider myself to be a master mechanic. If you change your oil, bleed your brakes, change your brake pads, change or clean your air filter, then I think you're capable of installing the kit yourself. Read the instructions carefully, label each part removed with nomenclature and page number, take your time [about 10 hours for me], and call PES or some of us who have done this if you get in a bind for help. You'll have to send your ECU to PES for the chip upgrade.

3. No other mods are required. PES recommends using a K&N panel air filter. I recommend upgrading your front brakes for shorter stopping distance.

I installed my G2 at 33k, now have 55k and no problems, mine's a 5 speed. I recommend the kit and the company that offers it. Here's a link to Rob Andrews' G2 owners registry.
