(again) doubts on Chipping or not
Have a 2001 A4 1.8T tiptronic, thinking about getting APR chip, but doubtful:
+ does it drastically reduces engine/turbo life ?
+ does it call for constant tune-ups ?
+ heard something about "cooling period", etc., etc.
...I am for more power but keeping reliability. Any suggestions ?
Thanks, Marcelo

you can get all these answered if you search the A4 forum
drastically reduce life? Depends on how you treat the car
constant tune up? Nope. Make sure you use synthetic oil (should be even if unchipped). And may want to do an oil change every 5k instead of wait for 10k. But that's not necessary depending on HOW you drive
cooling period. Applies to unchipped car to. Basically the turbo can get red and white hot from running high boost (more likely when chipped of course). You let it cool down by driving with low/no boost the last few minutes of your drive or let it idle when you park.
You also need to let the oil warm up before you push a lot of boost.

chip it...
if you regularly change oil and take care of your engine, you will be fine. yes, you should always let your turbo charged engine cool down...about 3 minutes or so depending on how you have been driving. or you can get a turbo timer which keeps the engine idling for the set time of your choice. as hdclown said, search the a4 board..this has all been discussed many many times over.
