Default Anyone actually go ahead with the RS2 tranny in their A4 1.8T?

I'd love any info I can get on it! Especially if anyone has done the conversion! Please let me know if anyone out there has done it, or have any information about it.

And I was also wondering if the clutch and flywheel from an A4 1.8T is the same as the RS2,...

THANKS!

Default it maybe worth contacting a tuner like ABT and ask them to make a 6 speed conversion

Get some people who are interested, collect a little money up front and go with it.

Default That's an interesting thought, but you'd most likely be better off using a 6-spd from an RS4...

...I would think that it would more closely match your final drive. Most likely it would cost the same as well.

That way you wouldn't have to change the axles or driveshaft.

Default I don't think the axles or driveshaft need to be changed, but the rear end gears need to be.

Is the RS4 trans any different than an S4 trans? And the S4 trans is almost identical to the RS2 trans except for the gear ratios and the hardened first gear.

So why not just use an S4 trans?

Default no, I agree... they are all 01Es... but the RS2 supposedly has a hardened 1st...

but about the driveshaft... somebody said that the 01E is longer than the 5spd... I took some eye measurments and I agree (but don't hold me to it obviously). That would necessitate a shorter driveshaft. As for the halfshafts, I couldn't tell you if they are compatible between transmissions.

Default Right, but if the RS2 is supposed to be a straight bolt-in, then the S4 trans should be as well....

I know about the hardened gear, and if I could find an S4 for cheap, I'd put new synchros and the hardened gears. Maybe look into hardening other gear if possible.

It would be a shame to have to lose my stock carbon-fiber driveshaft

Default nope....finaly drive doesn't match at all.....4.111 for rs2, s4, urs4, rs4....(m)

your best bet is to talk with ecstuning.com, they have a swapout. youll want the rs2 tranny, itsgearing matches the a4 1.8t better.....s4 tranny has a higher top end tho.

might want to have a look at charlie smith's tranny page:

http://elektro.cmhnet.org/~audi/01E/

dont' know if a 01E bolts up to the 1.8t, but current guesses are that it does. you will need to either swap the final drive, or get the rear diff from an s4 also.....Grr.

ive been looking into this for a while....if you do it, let me know. i also have had a bucket of conversations with people about it (namely charlie smith and some other AW'ers) so drop me a line if you want to see all the emails ive gotten....
