Default Anyone change the fuel filter on the A4 or S4 yet?

The "book" says something like 7 hours, which is rediculous. If you search in the A4 forum you'll find a different method that takes something like 45 minutes. I think it cuts the time so much by avoiding the removal of some parts. Anyone try this yet? Supposed to have it done tomorrow, so any replies would be very helpful.

Default Mike Staley changes them all the time. I think it takes less than 45 minutes.

Default Thanks, I already printed it this morning for my mechanic to look at.

I'm going to bring it to him tomorrow, but I'm not sure what he'll think of it. Is it really as simple as it seems? Anyone have personal experience with it? It just seems strange that "book time" is sooooo much longer.

Default Yep....

PITA.

I followed Mike's directions, but the big problem was trying to loosen the fuel lines from the fuel filter without breaking them. They were on there TIGHT, probably from being on the car for 5 years.

Awesome. That's the kind of info I'm looking for. Anyone else? Thanks, xr4tic!

Feel free to send me an email to ask how it goes tomorrow at my mechanic and this technique.

Default Changed it a few weeks ago

Using that exact walkthrough.
Except I didnt have to undo the bolt in step 4 - mine didn't have it.

And I pulled the filter out before undoing the lower fuel line attachment. Probably harder this way.

Yes I did get sprayed in the face by fuel under pressure, when I finally got the lower fuel line off. It was very tight.

Don't forget to replace the seeling washers - I did

Whats the worst that could happen...

All in all I think it may have taken me 1-2 hours I don't remember, but It was the first time I had done it and was taking my time. But its not a 7 hour job.

Default That's a great post...but I have to debate the validity of his "blow through" test.

A filter loaded with liquid IS going to be difficult to blow air through...that doesn't mean it's clogged. A dry filter will be very easy to blow air through in comparison. And changing filters every 15K...I don't buy that either.
