anyone ever have their knock sensor fail?
what was the code? Was it the knock sensor signal too low code? I'm getting this code over and over but it takes about 100 miles or so to generate a CEL. I basically get negative to 0 timing under WOT. I am thinking to just pay to buy a new one and have it replaced, but I figure I'd ask first.

I had that....
turned out it wasn't plugged all the way in. (I had recently disconnected it)
Also make sure that the bolt holding it in didn't come loose. They have to be torqued to a specific ft-lb (18 ft-lb I think)
The knock sensors are about $40 each from the online places like Carmadillo.com and alloemaudiparts.com
The dealer wants about $80 each.
Problem is, I have no idea which one is which (since there are two)

thanks john
actually....one shop did take a look at it and said it was loost. So they re-tourques it. And told me it seemed fine. No codes. I drove about 30 miles and then VAG'd it and kept getting that knock sensor code. Dealer wants $108 for a sensor. I found similar prices to what you mentioned online. Is it an easy DIY to replace it?
When you said not plugged in all the way, which end? I'll have to break out the bentley and see where this sensor is.

There are green and blue connectors....
should be next to the coolant tank on the firewall. There are 5 connectors total, black and brown for the 2 O2 sensors, and grey for the RPM sensor (at least those are the colors on my car)
I don't know which sensor is the first one, and which is the second color-wise though.
I've never replaced one, they're only held in with one bolt, but I don't know how hard it is to get to the bolt.

Should be easy to get to from the bottom, about 6" down under the
intake spaced between the cylinders. I forget you guys probably still have that enormous windshield washer tank in the way.

I also added another one after I melted my engine made by MSD.
It has a set of lights to scale the severity of knock and is adjustable for sensitivity. A little peace of mind...except when the thing lights up.
