Default APR or PES stage 3?

I am ready for a stage 3 kit for my 2001 A4 1.8TQM. They both look great and seem to provide similar gains. APR includes a cat, PES includes an air intake and mass airflow sensor. The PES kit is $700 cheaper.

I would like to here from customers of either kit with feedback on their results and reasons for choosing the kit they did.

Default Considering you own a 2001 (DBW)...

I would get APR's stage 3.

Default From what I saw, you don't get a mass airflow sensor, you get a mass air flow housing.

Experiences from a 2001 Pes turbo owner that I know. He bought it was never happy. Finally sold off the kit.

Default My buddy's PES car blew up..

doesn't play too nice with a DBW car, you would more than likely fall into the same category unless you got a boost controller and locked it down to 1.0 bar.

Problem is the engine management is touchy and finicky, and worse, when you start ****ing with it, the car doesn't run as good as it should and carbon deposits build up. Eventually it will destroy your engine and from my experiences with both giac and apr, the giac chips tend to ignore the knock sensors somewhat and still give high timing numbers, regardless of the fact that the car should be retarded as hell to keep from self-destructing with all that carbon in there.

I've been on both sides of the fence, whatever you do make sure you check the tops of your pistons regularly and treat accordingly.

Default From a Stage III owner: Get neither

I actually love my stage III, but it is still too small. Torque drops after 6000rpm. With 1200rpm still available, I think the car needs a bigger compressor. ATP has a gt30r turbo kit, but no programming. So, it's pretty much APR or nothing for me right now.

But, I've had no problems with the kit and it makes a regular a4 feel like a Yugo. My car is faster than a chipped S4 (w/ FMIC and 100 octane)
