Default ATP says that there is no turbo/Downpipe gasket...

Can that be right? They said that with the 5-bolt turbo exhaust outlet and downpipe flange, there should just be metal-on-metal contact. That seems like a good place for an exhuast leak to me. Anyone know different? They don't list a gasket on their website, but they do have the internal wastegate (3-bolt), so maybe thats right. I tried searching on the web, but couldn't find any. This is what the flange looks like: I was trying to tighten one of the nuts when I first put it on with a homeade rubber gasket (bad idea, wasn't thinking there), and I guess the stud was so hot that it just snapped off. So it is stuck up inside. Any advice for getting it out...easy out? Hopefully 4/5 will seal it, but since there is possibly no gasket, that really worries me...thanks for the help.

Never use a gasket if you can do it without. Flat milled surfaces best for turbos

Default Be careful.... some people don't believe in machined surfaces fitting tightly.

They think gaskets are always needed.

Shame on them for not searching on info like that first.

Nothing wrong with a metal to metal surface as long as everything is torqued down correctly.

Default On my audi I dont use gaskets on nothing except

betwen the head and the header and that is only a thin steel gasket. I had the factory gasket wich was 3 layer gasket but they fellapart so Im using only one layer and I have no leeks, and I have been using that gasket since 1999. I dont even use gasket on my waste gate.

Default You put rubber on the hot side of the turbo??? 8-|

Get a new stud.

If you use a gasket it should be a stainless steel 3 layer one.

Default I use gaskets all over the place on mine. Head gasket, valve cover gasket, turbo oil return line has

a gasket ... the list is a long one
Gotta say I wouldn't have tried a rubber gasket on the turbo tho ...
