Default Bailey DV Valve/APR combo. Car surging in 1st gear.

I'm going nuts...my 180QC (APR Chipped) was very surgy in 1st gear w/ my original Bailey valve, so I called AWE to get a replacement. Just put it in tonight...still surging @ about 3500 rpms in first gear.

Although the performance is better w/ the Bailey, the stock DV seems smoother (if you can believe it). I'm pretty sure there's not a leak because the stock DV (in chipped mode) didn't surge.

I'm at wit's end....
Questions:

1. What's the concensus on resetting the ECU after Bailey install? Do I need to do it?

2. Does everyone have their Bailey DV in opposite from stock, that is w/ the top nipple facing the driver's side?

3. If you mash the pedal to the floor in 2nd gear does the turbo seem to tail off at about 5200rpm's? Is that just the limitation of the 1.8T engine??

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Default you may have installed it incorrectly, side of BPV(when 'nipple' on top) is the hi-pressure inlet

thats the inlet that goes to the intercooler section

Default Boost "tapers off" above ~5200rpm on my APR 1bar too. It's normal...

...at higher engine speeds, the K03 becomes less and less efficient (produces inordinate amount of heat per pound of boost).

I disagree....but its confusing...I run mine with the boost directly into the bottom//opposite Bntly

Default

The Bailey is holding the boost, the stock is leaking, making it 'feel' smoother

Default by surging, what do you mean?

Surging is when the car changes power substantially without changing the throttle input. A good DV cannot cause this.

Is that what you mean?

If you just mean the power comes on real quick at certain RPMs, it's probably just the way the chip is designed.

Default Your Bailey is installed incorrectly. The side valve should see pressure.

Nipple and bottom should see vacuum. It will hold boost better this way.

Per: Nick from APR.

Default It is not that the turbo is less efficient at the higher rpm it is that the turbo can only spin so

fast and will not create anymore boost over what you get now. But the K03 can make up to 25psi in the lower rpms and still make more power then at 16psi.
