Default brake kit advice needed

I'm ready to order a brake kit this week. The car is used for agressive street driving, Auto-X, and some track use. I was all set to get the QRS System 1 (BIRA) kit, but ECS is now ready to ship their kit. Here's a comparison of the 2 kits.

QRS System 1 for $1275:

(2) Porsche 968 Boxster Monobloc Calipers
(2) Audi OEM Rotors
(2) BIRA caliper mounting brackets
high-performance street pads
SS brake lines
Motul 600 racing brake fluid

ECS Tuning Stage II+ for $1295:

Porsche Boxster S red brake calipers (4-piston mono-block, extremely lightweight)
ECS Tuning 7075 aircraft alum custom mounting brackets (anodized black)
12.3" slotted & cadmium coated brake rotors
Textar brake pads
Custom stainless steel lines (2)
Porsche mounting hardware
1 liter of Ate super blue brake fluid

The main differences seems to be that ECS is using Boxster S calipers instead of the QRS Boxster calipers and ECS comes with slotted rotors, QRS doesn't. At first glance it seems that the ECS is a much better deal, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks in advance for any help.

Default I have been wondering the same thing...

It seems like ECS offers a very competitive package there. At Christmas time they were having a sale on the Golf/Jetta Stage II kit for $995 if I remember correctly. That is a good price on a fine brake upgrade.

What are the advantages of the Boxter S calipers over the Boxter calipers, BTW?

Default boxster S caliper == 996 caliper. ie, current generation 911 uses

the same calipers. they are bigger.....4 pot, but use the TT rotors....which seems kind of sketch, as the 996 caliper is for ~30mm wide rotor, while the tt rotor is like 25 mm last i checked.

excerpt from email:
> hmm. are those 312x30? i thought they were 312x25? and the 996 caliper
is made for 30mm rotors?

312x25 is the correct size.

The 996 was made for slightly "thicker" rotor but the 25mm rotor works with
the 996 caliper with no problems. Basically you are talking about a 2.5mm
difference on each end, which is completely insignificant.

it could be an issue....i personally like to get rotors that were made to fit with a given caliper size. but you could probably make them work, i dont know much about brakes.

Tom's a good guy though, have a talk with him. possibly talk with some QRS/Bira guys too.

Default after speaking to Tom from ECS

and actually the guys at QRS told me the same thing...

the Boxster S calipers are not going to be much better than the Boxster calipers. Tom at ECS (a really nice and helpful guy by the way) said that most people buying the Boxster S setup are buying it for the red calipers. I'm going for performance not looks.

Default well, youll have slightly better cooling from a 996 caliper + 30mm rotor ---

its thicker. honestly, boxster calipers + a8 rotors is a LOT of stopping force for an a4 1.8t. im thinking, if i can find aftermarket rotors, that it will be the way to go. i haven't been able to find aftermarket s4 rotors for bira system 2, so im leaning towards boxsters. plus, the weight is similar, and with quality pads, i think ill have more than enough stop. . . . .

but yeah, i see what he means by saying its not that different. especially with our "light" cars. plus, boxsters fit under 16" wheels!

Default and i should say that ECS uses a 312 or 314 x 25mm rotor fronm the TT, with a 996 caliper (m)

wheras bira uses a 321x30 s4 rotor with a 996 caliper. so there is definately a different brake torque relationship, plus you can get two piece, cool running light coleman rotors with bira system 2. seems more for cars like the s4 which have a couple more hundred pounds and much more weight up front.
