Default BT guys:GT3071R..keep internal gate? or go w/an external WG setup-->

This is the big debate I'm having right now. Do I just use the sh!tty little internal gate or go with an external setup. I've heard it's easier to control boost and prevent boost creep with an external gate.

Mike? Billy? Yippers? anyone with some info on this..I'd like to hear it.

TIA

Default I dont have a big turbo, but it deffinetly seems that anyone pushing considerable power....

uses an external waste gate. plus if the external one ever fails (wich i dont know how prone they are, but still) you only have to replace the waste gate, not the whole turbo, and even if you can just replace the internal waste gate, you still ahve to pull the turbo. Id imagine the exhaust housing without an internal waste gate has slightly better flow charateristics, no pocket to make the exhaust gasses jetty, prob extremely slight difference, but to somone power hungry enough to do a GT3071R i would think every litle bit counts. and if you look at the big turbo guys setup the realy big ones have external (audi2ptzero, A400, some other guy with a big dahlback kit, and all the 5 cylinder guys with big turbos)

Default have you asked around DSM forums or anywhere people run that turbo/trim

if you can run the boost you want without bookt creep, why not just stay internal. I know you want to have a sleeper can and an external wastegate adn ATP amnifold are not going to keep it a sleeper.

Default get a tial external wastegate...

it'll help with surging and much better boost control.

Default im running 3071 + ext Tial... no boost problems

where as ive seen many problems come up on internal WG's. (trust me, i've worked/replaced a few on friend's cars).

btw, just dyno'd 320 whp on my '01 A4 1.8t on 91 pump gas. Still room for more w/ some fine tuning
