Default Can I have the stock A4 flywheel lightened?

I'm not talking anything super major, since taking too much off may make the flywheel unsafe.

The reason I ask is I just lost 2nd gear, so I have to pull the trans. I can't justify spending $1K for a new flywheel/clutch, especially since my current clutch (stock) has only 18K miles on it.

If I can do it, how much weight do you think I can shed? 4 or 5 lbs maybe?

Thanks,

Default I would on mine when the time comes. It would help me Auto-Xing, but I'll have to be more cautious

on a road track because lift throttle oversteer will be more evident, and I use quite a bit of throttle modulation to try to make the end come slightly around. Other than that, revs would just drop faster, but just as some V8 american cars, I had no problems driving them smoothly with passengers. Legs cramp more though :P

Default Stock A4 flywheel weighs 24 lbs; APR lightweight flywheel is ~14lbs...

...so I'd think 18-19lbs would be a good compromise.

Default For the amount of effort and time put in it, you might as well get APRs flywheel setup

I think more time and hassle are going to go into then you realize.

Default The stock flywheel is a dual mass unit, so lightening it is no easy task.

You would be hard pressed to shave of 1-2 lbs from the stock unit.

An aftermarket clutch kit, like ours, converts the flywheel to a single mass aluminum unit (13lbs lighter), and then uses a sprung center clutch disc.

That way, you have easy take-up characteristics (clutch disc), while letting the engine rev like a superbike (aluminum flywheel)!<ul><li><a href="http://www.awe-tuning.com/products/audi/audiparts.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=1&PEI=2&PP=a4_18t_drivet rain.cfm&PPT=Drivetrain">April special on A.W.E.
