Default Can someone explain the difference in just bolting on a K04 to stock and purchasing a kit?

I was wondering what justifies the price difference and if there are any incentives to those who already have a chip from the mfg. they would be purchasing the kit from? Thanks

Default Not much difference, except ...

the kits usually come with most of the hardware and gaskets needed. You don't have to go fishing around for banjo washers or gaskets. I think you might be able to buy the gaskets from AWE?

There isn't much to installing (mechanically) the K04 to your 1.8T, the main thing is the programming of the ECU. Since you have GIAC you should be fine. Pay $20 (I think) for the upgraded software and you should do fine.

Default K04 Upgrade Info

Basically you should be fine, of course the most important part is the software for the turbo, like the previous post said, since you have a GIAC, another good reason why to get a GIAC chip is that for a small sum you can upgrade the software. Now here is a little footnote, there are two variants for the K04, one include the oil line link, and one doesn't, please make sure you get the one with the link, if not then youll have drill. At lease here, my dealer told me they have all the gaskets and toosl to upgrade to the K04, I dunno if your dealer is "performance friendly", but they'll even install it for me, this is good because they warranty their work!

P.S.-Make sure you read my post below on how to take care of this turbo. And if you will run the K04 to the limit or use it for racing, get and EGT Gauge, and keept the temp. below 950.
