Default Car's idling starting to get a bit rough, is it the fuel injectors? What can I do?

About two weeks ago, I started to notice slight irregular vibrations when the car is idle, as if a cylinder is out of tune with the rest once a while. I asked a mechanic friend and he said it's the fuel injectors need cleaning. Is that likely the cause or could it be the coil packs? (my car is a 30V 2.8) If it's the fuel injectors, what do I need to clean them? I see many fuel injector cleaners sold by all kinds of stores, is there a recommend brand?

thanks

Default

Techron is the only injector cleaner I'd use.

Default I've been gassing at Chevron most of the time, which is with techron. Does this mean I should get..

the individual bottle of techron and dump it into the tank?

Default wouldn't hurt. usually one bottle every oil change...

rough idle can be caused by crappy sparkplugs too possibly.

Default There are plenty good ones on the market...

But I seriously doubt its your injectors in a 30v.

But I would reccomend using Chevron Techron, BG 44K, Liqui-Moly Ventil Sauber or dabs of straight toluene ever so often. Toluene is the most active ingredient in most OTC fuel injector cleaners and can be alot cheaper by the gallon.

I buy it by the 5 gallon from Sherwin Williams and use about 1/2 gallon to every tank of 94 octane gas I use. The car is a 96 with almost 130,000 on it and it runs better than it did the day I got it.

Default If it's not the injectors then what is it? The spark plugs? I hope...

there's nothing seriously going wrong...

Default It'd be a good idea to check the spark plugs. They may be able to tell

you what's going on. Also, if you've hosed down the engine recently, water can get in the spark plug tube and short out the ignition, causing a misfire. Might want to just pull out the plug wires & check that, look for moisture on the end of the plug wires. Also, you can mist the plug wires with water from a spray bottle, and look for arcing to ground. Could also be a vacuum leak? And the black PCV tube that runs between the valve covers and the intake snorkel.....That should be plenty for you to check :-)

Try plugging in a different or a new coil amp. Idle will get rough when they start to go.
