Default Clutch & Flywheel

I have a 2000 Audi A4 1.8 T Quattro and would like to make the following modifications... First I would like to install a light flywheel and an aftermarket clutch. Can you recommend a GOOD quality brand? I should preface this question by giving you an indication of my application. My car is totally stock; I am looking for a little more off the line power, nothing hardcore. I also was thinking to swap out the stock are filter for something a little more free flowing, perhaps K&N? Can you recommend, based on your experience, parts that will suite my needs. I cannot stress, the quality of the components, I want proper fit with the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel.

Thanks!

Default I agree with the chip

The stock clutch is a great unit. Its good for around 250HP and 250lb of torque. It is not a marginal part like on some cars. Adding a clutch and flywheel would cost around $1300-2000 including the installation and would give you a marginal performance improvement. You can pick up a used chip for a few hundred bucks or one from a tuner for about $400 or so. Do a search on the board. The chips will give you a solid 40HP and 80 or so lb/ft of torque. Which chip, all depends, if you want my choice APR, but I am biased with my S3 under the hood.

Default Re: I agree with the chip

The chip is fine; however, I drive my car often on the track. Therefore, if I want to take those corners more quickly more power is not the answer. With a lighter flywheel I will be able to improve my heel-tow and rev matching techniques, thus allowing me to shave off all important time.

So if anyone can recommend a certain brand or brands for a lighten flywheel and clutch, then great... If I want a chip I would have posted, what chip is....

Thanks.

Default Well if you have a quattro that could be a problem

I have heard people having driveability issues with lightened flywheels and a quattro setup. Such things as the car dying @ idle. I've had lightened flywheels on other cars, autocrossed and tracked, but I don't think its a good bang for the buck modification for the audi. I think tires, suspension, chip etc are going to help more @ the track or for fun. I personally find NA and lightened flywheels are a better combination than turbo's and flywheels. If you are really dead set on a lightened flywheel you don't have a lot of choices. APR isn't selling theirs anymore, until future notice, AWE has one, ECS has one I believe, WOA had one but Juan is out of business. You could have someone custom lighten your flywheel, but I wouldn't take much off for the above reasons.

Default Ok does anyone notice he has a DBW car and AWE does not sell a clutch kit with a flywheel

for a dbw. Here it is right from AWE's site.

The A.W.E. Heavy Duty clutch kit for the A4/B5 1.8T (with AEB engine code) consists of everything...

Yes that says AEB which is a NON dbw car.
