Does anybody know the CFM for the 8E intercooler? Or the CFM B5 intercooler.

Default Intercoolers are really hard to rate......

due to so many factors: inside temp, outside temp, inside flow, outside flow, pressure, etc.

They'll usually flow quite a bit, but there will be a corresponding pressure loss. That's what you have to be concerned about.

Default I am trying to learn about pressure lost and how a K04 is effected...(more)

I see I can purchase a 1000cfm intercooler for the K04, but I am wondering what the increase is over stock and at what pressure would I begin to lose the static pressure? across the intercooler.

Would it be beneficial to rig some sort of air duct straight to the intercooler? No water mist for me.

To be honest I would like to chop a intercooler in half and look at the viens because I am a little unsure of the make-up of an intercooler.

Default The stock IC is a bad location....

and there is already a duct that goes to the IC, it's just not a high flow area.

Ideally you want something up front, in the middle, but there isn't a lot of space behind an A4 bumper.

The stock IC was designed for 7psi and low airflow. So anything is an improvement. You don't want to go too big though. The RS4 has a bigger IC to handle the K04's extra boost.

If you want to know the pressure drop on the stock IC, you'll probably need to do some pressure readings before and after to find out.

Your motor cannot flow 1000cfm

Default It's possible, depends on the motor and boost.....

A 1.8 is 108.6 cubic inches, or 0.0629 cubic feet.

CFM = 0.0629 x RPM x (14.7 + boost)/14.7

at 6500 RPM, you'll have ~410cfm at 0psi (Normally Aspirated), at 1 bar of boost, you'll have ~820cfm. If you can get 21psi, you'll have 1000cfm, although that's pushing a K04 pretty hard.

My 2.0 at 25psi and 6500rpm will flow 1245cfm

Of course, this doesn't take into account volumetric efficiency or other losses.
