My chilton manual states that the coolant need to be drained before you can remove the TB. Is this necessary?

This wouldn't be the first time this manual was wrong.

Default Take off the cable, disconnect the TPS plug...

remove the hose, remove 4 screws.

Very easy.

Not really, it's pretty straight-forward.

Default I forgot about that part...

probably because I no longer have CC

A small screwdriver can be used to pop the retainer clip off, it swings out, then down (don't lose it!), then you can use a bigger screwdriver to pop the cable off the ball socket.

Default I was just outside taking a look at it...

Your method sounds like it will work fine.

Im trying to avoid some headachs by getting as much info as I can now, because Im going to have to do the TB swap in 10 degree weather and no garage.

Default It's really not that hard......

though getting the clip off for the CC might be hard when your fingers are frozen together
