Does anyone know what belongs in this empty space? (x post from S4 forum)

My car is a 6spd, '01 model year S4, and the '00 models do not have this space. Could it be a space to house a part for the Tip transmission?
The bracket is located on the front driver's side of the engine compartment, in front of the ABS unit.
Does anyone else that owns a 01 model year have this same empty bracket?
