Default At two different track events I have had the transmission kick into "safe"mode..

...and effectively take me out of the running. This has occured with two cars...a B6S4 and a B7S4, at times when outside temps have been close to or over 100. When I VAG'd the car, high tranny temps were revealed as causing the jump to "safe."

ahh i see but I've never heard of them kicking into "safe" before, are you running them at far beyond stock RPM?

Default Well...these are track events and my RPM's are high, but I try to keep them from bumping up...

against redline. The two tracks this has occured at have many turns with short straights which = a lot of up and down shifting which = a lot of tranny work.

Default You could use a Setrab oil cooler, does your car have a pump to run the oil to the cooler

I know some of the older 6 speeds had a pump or a place for the pump. You could easily mount to front of the car, but you must have at least a place cut/drilled to get oil out and back in, and some type of pump (even an electric would work) to get the oil to the cooler. While you are at it, you should also cool the rear diff.. I have seen some Audi's that run the pump off a belt on the driveshaft, but dont remember when or where I saw it - you may be able to communicate with some of the old heads like Meyer or Dahlback who were involved wit the Audi race teams, the old race cars were the only ones I know who ever did it. It is however a common problem on race Audis. I have never seen this 'safe mode' happen, but I have a 97 manual and I dont know if they even have a tranny safe mode.

Default Audi made a tranny that had a pump or a place 4 1. Then you just mount an oil cooler

I ran across this when playing w/URS4's many moons ago. May have to plug into the euro crowd, cause I dont think it ever came here. I am thinking it came on an s8??
