Dreaded oil debate: Is there a difference between VW 505 00 and 505 01
The reason I ask is because I thought I found the perfect oil at my AutoZone. It said it met the VW specs and listed them on the back label.
I read the Audi oil bulletin and it says it requires <a href="http://www.audiusa.com/etc/medialib/cms4imp/audi2/aoa/company/aoa-specific.Par.0004.File.pdf">502 00 and 505 01</a>.
So now I go to look at the bottles sitting in my garage and the Castrol Syntec that I previously used says 502 00 and 505 00 on the back of the bottle.
So this makes me wonder, is there a difference between 505 00 and 505 01? And a second question is, how realistic is it to find a bottle of VW 505 01, because the list of approved oils on the Audi website is very small compared to the 502 00 list?
