Default EGTs, aftermarket exhausts & chips??

Wouldn't an aftermarket exhaust lower EGT's by lowering backpressure, especially when combined with a chip? Also, where's the EGT sensor located? Before or after the turbo?

There isn't an EGT sensor. I bought a kit from AWE.

Default High EGT's are good when you look at it from a different perspective...

Having efficient cooling system and ceramic coated chamber (pistons, valves, head, etc) will take the heat away from the chamber and end up in higher EGT's by as much as 300 degrees. Meaning, less heat in the chamber, more timing advance with less fuel, less detonation, more power, better fuel mileage - well at least for enduro racing.

But as far as backpressure is concerned, it could do little about lowering EGT, if anything, it could raise it as the overall effect is a leaner mixture. In this case, higher EGT is not good. my 2 cents

Default Before the turbo.

You're typically concerned whether or not you are going to melt the turbo

Default Melt the turbo? no way :) It will just harness all that available energy until it uuh konks out.

My example was more of an extreme setup anyway, which typically for a turbo car may be using ceramic turbines also.

Think about how efficient the catalytic converter will run

Default Thats a complicated question (more)

any time you change the balance of fuel and air, EGTs are going to change. Decididing if that is good or bad is something else entirely.
What are your goals?
Racing and road demands are totally different.
I would mount the EGT as close as possible to the exhaust ports. Peak power occurs somewhere around 1400 deg. F, but I wouldn't want my street car hanging out all day at those temps.

Default My questions, are of course, in reference to the S4, as currently driven by most...

...and how my questions may impact long-term durability of the turbochargers due to exposure to high EGT's, and if a freeer flowing exhaust would allow for slightly reduced EGTs, especially under track conditions.
