Default A formal protest against "ricey" A4s [long and whiny]

Now, I'm an Asian guy myself, so don't get all PC-flamey on me.

It's just that I find the whole "wolf in pimp's clothing" thing so trashy. It's one thing to ruin a perfectly good Civic with wings, 19" chrome rims, and an exhaust that looks more like howitzer than a car part.

But to do it to a perfectly good A4, whose body and styling reflect the generally restrained good taste of the Germans is downright offensive. Of the Teutons, only Gemballa (who is actually Swiss, I think) and my beloved MTM seem to buck the less is more trend when it comes to styling.

I mean, why stop at "Lexus-like" tail lights and the latest in LLTek "eyebrows" (is there any functional reason for these?) Why not add some "Club Bad Boy" or "Fear This" stickers?

FYI, I do practice what I preach, with an A!Avantgarde black mesh grille as my only visible mod. And someday, when winter's done, I'll probably go in for the AEZ Radons (in a conservative 17" size) like Andy Hedin. Oh, and only Rings for badges, just to play mind games with all the 2.8s out there.

Anyone agree? Disagree? Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Default Be thankful there even items you can obtain for your Audi!

Until the A4, there was very little available item
for Audi's! Some Audi models still have absolutely nothing available for them! Its a
marketing craze with the A4! So what if some
person wants to make his sled look like a christmas tree! Different strokes for different folks! Its what democracy is all about!
It would be really boring if all our cars looked exactly alike! Try owning an Audi, where theres
not a single item available!

Default Lighten up a little. If everyone had the same taste...

An acquaintance of mine got a new Saab 900 awhile back, and his kids got him a pair of fuzzy dice to hang off the rear-view mirror. He dutifully "installed" the dice, and noticed on more than one occasion that his fellow Saab owners were not very pleased with his regalia.

Getting with the program, he installed a pair of Yosemite Sam "Back Off" mud flaps, and a couple of other things, installed with the express purpose of amusing himself at the outrage of his fellow Sabb owners. Worked like a charm, and he had many amusing and interesting rides that would otherwise have been boring.

My point is: Why should anyone care how other people modify their cars?

Unless you're one of those folks who care more about the impression your car makes on others, compared to the joy of driving it, then why even bother to be bothered? I tend to agree that most modifications tend to detract from the looks of a given vehicle, but so what? I mean, if you think that ugly, stupid modifications on a car like yours somehow diminish you and your car, I think you need to evaluate your self confidence.

Most days, I drive a Neon. This thing is a joy to drive on any windy road, and has around 2000 track miles on it. Compared to our A6 4.2, I'm sure the Neon diminishes my stature amongst my fellow road users, especially since you see so many Neons out there with stupid looking and garish add-ons. So what? My Neon is fun to drive, period.

Default Just trying to stir up the pot a little, Augie...

I think your friend's Saab story is very funny and cool -- more power to him.

And how could I find fault with your Neon (ACR or R/T or neither?). Although if you "pimp out" your A6, you're committing a heinous offense against one of the most beautiful cars on the road (love the wheel flares, bulging rocker panels, and "pie plate" wheels.)

But did you have to bring my self-confidence into it? Actually, it seems like your point about "caring more about the impression your car makes on others" applies more to the "clear brake light" crowd than to me, no? It's not like I stone every "pimped" A4 I see.

Thanks for helping stir...

Default Well said HB!

But get the 18" radons! They are still conservative...

Default Giovanna wheels or AEZ wheels?

I think this choice illustrates my point perfectly.

In the words of Robert Plant, "Yes, there are two paths you can go by. But in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on."

Default So what do you think of all the Audi's, BMW's, and Porsche's that race in the DTM, Speedvision, STW.

and all those races? They have the widebodies, touring style wings, and other aerodynamics features. Are they "ricey" too? To say that "less is more" about Gemballa? Have you seen the Gemballa wings on the Porsches? Have you seen the MTM silver TT coupe? It is hardly "less". I don't agree with "all show no go". But how are you to know what's under everyone's hoods? I personally wouldn't mind having my car looking like the Speedvision S4! The word "ricey" is far too generalized, generic, and ambiguous if you ask me. If you had an HKS blow-off valve and a HKS exhuast, does that make you "ricey"? Or if you had the LLtek eye brows? Just had to put my $.02 in ;-) (from a female Asian American) and Happy Thanksgiving! My advise: Do what you feel and think looks good to you. Who cares what other people think. Otherwise we would all be the same. And BE NICE. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all (at least that's what my mother taught me).
