FYI - Clicking 1st gear cause
You may or may not remember reading about my problem gearbox. Well its pulled apart now and the 1st gear and the input shaft are missing their hardending on parts of the teeth.
Apparently this is due to the input shaft bearing begining to fail.
And Audi love to charge on their spares.
WHAT A PITA.
Anyone else had this problem.

Re: What were the symptoms?
Clicking in 1st gear - changes relativly to rpm. Only makes the noise when gear is engaged (i.e. clutch is released)
All other gears were fine.
I didnt have any problems selecting gears or popping out of gear.
It was suspected that it was a chipped tooth. But its not.
Audi Australia wanted AU$12,000 for a new box. I dont think so.
I was told by one gearbox expert that its the input shaft bearing that goes that causes the damage to the gears - so if you catch the bearing ealy enough you can avoid damage to the gears.

So does mine. Has been for a couple years now, just in first sounds like a rrrrrrr
the noise speeds up as I do. Goes away at about 2500 RPMS (actually the exhaust probably just drowns out the noise). Never had any problems though. Might need a new tranny someday, drop in an S4 would be nice after I put in the S/C.
