Default got a question for you guys regarding MAF housings...

curious if there is much benefit or downside to running a larger aluminum (ATP) MAF housing on a B5 1.8T using a stock turbo?

i am currently running (more or less, dont have my car right now but you know what i mean) a giac chip, evo ms intake, samco hoses (only intercooler hoses) forge 007 dv and i am puchasing an exhaust very soon.

i think it is a very nice looking unit and think it would add a little more airflow but i am new to the world of MAF's (only had my car since may and was all hondas before that)so any insight into this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew<ul><li><a href="http://www.vwturbo.com/products/details.asp?id=235&amp;cat=18">http://www.vwturbo.com/products/details.asp?id=235&amp;cat=18</a</li></ul>

Default If you just put a larger housing on, you'll screw up your MAF readings...

The ATP housings are made to work with the factory sensor. The reason they make them is to try and compensate for larger injectors, which you don't need with the stock turbo.

Default Just because its bigger doesn't mean its better...

until you start outflowing the stock one (186+g/s) you'll just start to get into a tuning debacle.

Default Just because the maf housing is larger

the inlet to your turbo is still much smaller then even the stock maf housing, so your flow is still not going to get any better even if you went with a huge maf housing.

Default Even IF you had the proper chip to operate with it....

there would be no gains whatsoever.

There are two main reasons to upgrade the MAF. If the MAF is being maxed out, or if it will be a restriction in the intake plumbing.

Default Ditto.

You'd need a bigger turbo first, before worrying about the MAF housing. Agreed with what John said.

Default Why run larger housing?

Can't you just run 2 MAF's and tune it for the 2 inputs?

But as the others have said. Why upgrade the MAF if you dont have to.
