Default H&R wheels spacers-reliability and racing

If I remember correctly, it is not recommended to do track racing with any type of wheel spacer but I know many that do. I am considering a set fo 5mm spacers to fit my Porsche calipers to my GTI VR6.
Is it not recommended to participate in any track events with these. I am worried about the added stress of the wheel/hub area in the event.
Any experience with this. I figure that 5mm is not substantial and should not weaken the surface area of the hub significantly.
Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks,
Chris

Default 5mm is fine! alot of BIRA owners use 5mm spacers with 16" wheels.
