Default Yep.....

Rich Sierra did.

The easier route is to put in a 2.8 trans.
The gear ratios are pretty close, with 6th gear in the S4 trans just slightly taller than the 2.8 trans.

https://forums.audiworld.com/performance/msgs/43065.phtml

Will it be less work and money if I just opt for a 2.8 tranny over the S4's?

Default Rich & I did ours near the same time

He actually made my left trans mount, which was the only thing we couldn't find an actual audi part for. My cost was around $2300, using a little of everything for resources. I got the 6 speed for free(don't ask), rear dif-$500-ebay, center driveshaft-mounts-clutch-linkage-all new over the countr @ dealer, where I work ;-).

If you're serious, I have another 6 speed I could rebuild for you...$...$...$

Default Straight bolt in.....

the 2.8 and 1.8 cases are identical, the only difference is the gear ratios.
